2013 Dental Lectures
Dr. Cooper attended and presented a lecture at the 27th Annual Bernard Jankelson Forum meeting of the American/Canadian Section of ICCMO in Scottsdale, Arizona on October 31-November 2, 2013. The meeting was a huge success. The weekend began with a Board of Regents meeting at which Dr. Cooper was installed as American Section Treasurer.
The scientific program for the three days included a dental staff training program and programs for dentists that included an Introduction to Neuromuscular Dentistry by Dr. Cooper.
Typical of all ICCMO meetings, this year’s event was characterized by the warm, fraternal spirit which old members expect and new members and guests learned to enjoy. Characteristic of American and International meetings of the College, the atmosphere of openness and accessibility at scientific and social functions prevailed.
Dr. Cooper presented a lecture on the results of research he has performed and published on the Signs and Symptoms of Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) at the 17th International Congress of the International College of Cranio-Mandibular Orthopedics (ICCMO), held in Munich on October 10-12, 2013. A most exciting event was the formal approval of the newest ICCMO International Section in Russia. The Congress was organized by members of the German Section of the college. Dr. Cooper was installed as International Treasurer of the College.
Members were present from all of the College’s International sections including: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, South America and the United States. The scientific program included 33 research and clinical presentations. The Munich meeting was a social success as well. Typical of ICCMO meetings, old and new friends from across the globe gathered to share social and professional experiences. The College by design has been a forum for the free exchange of scientific information and clinical experiences in a fraternal atmosphere, where new practitioners and experienced clinicians in private practice and academia meet.
Since its founding in 1979, ICCMO has held biennial International Congresses in Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States. The next International Congress will be held in 2015 in Kyoto, Japan followed in 2017 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Dr. Cooper presented a lecture at The Third International Symposium of Functional and Neuromuscular Dentistry: The Future of Dentistry Today. The Moscow meeting, attended by three hundred dentists, was held on May 24-25, 2013. The two day program included speakers from Russia, Canada and the United States. Dr. Cooper reported on the results of research he has performed and published on the successful treatment of a large number of patients with Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD) using neuromuscular oral appliance therapy and also on the prevalence of Signs and Symptoms of TMD in almost 5,000 patients that he had examined.
STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK, STONY BROOK
In January and February 2014, Dr. Cooper presents lectures to the third and fourth year students at the State University of New York, Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine, where Dr. Cooper holds the faculty appointment of Clinical Professor. The lectures include the role of neuromuscular occlusion in the treatment of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and the diagnosis and treatment of patients with TMD. A practical demonstration of the computerized testing procedure used in his practice is given to the fourth year students, two of whom serve as the test subjects. It is a unique and valuable educational experience for the soon to be dentists.
