EdwardIt has been a while since I saw you. As you know I eventually got permanent crowns to replace the bite plate that you gave me. But I want to say how much I appreciate your scientific approach to a very difficult subject. Although I was not entirely cured, you helped me tremendously. It has taken me a while, but I just wanted to say thank you.
JayI have had chronic TMJ for the last two years including debilitating joint pain, facial pain and muscle stiffness. My TMJ started one night when I yawned and my jaw popped out of place. My jaw, joints and muscles became irritated and I started to experience terrible facial pain and headaches. Nothing seemed to help and the pain was always there. My regular dentist tried a night guard. My oral surgeon tried anti-inflammatories. My Internist tried physical therapy. But nothing cured my TMJ or helped for more than a day or two. It was like fighting a ghost. The pain, jaw stiffness and related headaches would always return when I stopped treatment. That was, until I saw Dr. Cooper. His compassion, understanding and knowledge about TMJ were unparalleled. He explained his treatment and literally took over five hours examining and fitting me with a customized mouth guard that was modeled after my natural bite. He complimented the mouth guard with TENS therapy, which is a gentle muscle relaxation technic that helps the jaw find its natural setting. The follow-up by Dr. Cooper has been amazing and I feel like he is really rooting for me to get better. I have been using my new mouth guard for about four weeks, and I have already started to see results. My stiffness is almost completely gone and I actually enjoy talking to people again. I have stopped taking anti-inflammatories. I have begun to do more normal activities. I have even started to yawn again. I feel like I’m on the road to recovery and my TMJ is finally – finally starting to subside. I strongly recommend Dr. Cooper to anyone experiencing TMJ – his knowledge is incredible, his treatment makes sense and his compassion is appreciated. Dr. Cooper is old school since he spends the necessary time to understand and treat his patients, unlike most doctors today.
